Reddit

Social Archiver can save individual Reddit posts and comments, preserve available discussion context and media, and import your Reddit Saved list from Chrome.

Save a post or comment

Archive an individual Reddit post or comment URL from the mobile app, desktop app, web app, Obsidian plugin, or Chrome extension. On mobile, you can also share the Reddit link to Social Archiver from the system share menu.

Depending on what Reddit makes available, an archive can include:

  • Post or saved-comment body, author, community, score, and publishing time
  • Nested comments and thread context
  • Images, galleries, and supported video
  • Author avatar and outbound links

Some deleted comments, age-gated communities, private communities, or media that requires an active session may remain unavailable.

Optional signed-in session

A signed-in Reddit session can improve comment and thread capture. It does not bypass community access controls.

Mobile

  1. Open Settings → Integrations → Reddit.
  2. Tap Connect and sign in in the built-in Reddit window.
  3. Complete any verification and confirm that the Reddit row shows as connected.
  4. If needed, enable Use session from share menu.

Reddit's social sign-in buttons may not appear or complete inside the built-in browser. If that happens, use your Reddit email or username and password.

Desktop

Open Settings → Integrations → Reddit and connect in the Reddit sign-in window. URL capture, Quick Capture, clipboard capture, and browser-tab capture can then use that Mac's session.

Session privacy

Mobile and desktop sessions stay on the device where they were created. Social Archiver does not receive your Reddit password, cookies, or session tokens. Connect each device separately.

Import Reddit Saved with Chrome

The Chrome extension can import both saved posts and saved comments from your signed-in Reddit Saved page.

  1. In Chrome, sign in to Reddit and open https://www.reddit.com/user/yourname/saved.
  2. Open the Social Archiver extension and choose Import Reddit Saved Posts.
  3. Let the extension discover the visible saved items.
  4. Choose Upload to my account, Archive to Obsidian vault, or Desktop app.
  5. Start the import. You can pause, resume, retry failed items, or discard the job.

The browser session is used locally to read the Saved listing and download supported media. Saved comments become comment archives; saved posts include available thread comments. Unsupported item types or unavailable media may be skipped or completed with warnings.

Destinations and quota

DestinationResultSocial Archiver account quota
Upload to my accountCreates account archives that sync to supported clientsCounts successful new archives
Archive to Obsidian vaultSends the import to the local Obsidian workflowDoes not use account quota
Desktop appHands the import to the local desktop appDoes not use account quota

Keep the selected local client open and connected during handoff. Duplicate or skipped account items do not create another archive.

Communities and recurring collection

The Obsidian plugin can crawl supported subreddit URLs such as /r/community for a bounded one-time archive job. This is different from the Chrome Saved import. Creating new Reddit subscriptions is not currently offered from the mobile app, so use the client options shown in your version rather than assuming every Reddit community can be subscribed.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to check
Comments are missingConnect the optional Reddit session, confirm the thread is visible in the same device, and retry. Some deleted or collapsed comments cannot be recovered.
Reddit sign-in does not completeUse Reddit email or username and password instead of a social sign-in button, then finish any verification.
Saved import is not shownOpen the exact /user/<name>/saved page in the same signed-in Chrome profile and reopen the popup.
Media is skippedOpen the source item in Reddit and confirm the media still loads for the connected account.
A local destination failsOpen the selected Obsidian or desktop client, confirm its browser handoff connection, and retry.
Reddit limits requestsPause the job and wait before resuming. Large imports are safer in smaller runs.
