Last Updated: November 17, 2025

Introduction

Social Archiver ("we", "our", or "the Plugin") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our Obsidian community plugin and optional cloud services.

Current Service Status

Free Beta (November 2025)

Social Archiver is currently completely free during the beta period. All features are available at no cost with unlimited archiving.

Future Plans (2026): After beta completion, we plan to introduce tiered pricing. Existing beta users will receive special benefits. Details will be announced well in advance.

Obsidian Plugin Policy Compliance

Social Archiver complies with Obsidian's Developer Policies:

  • The plugin is free and open-source under the MIT License
  • Network use is disclosed: We use BrightData API and Cloudflare Workers (details below)
  • Account requirement disclosed: Optional account for web sharing features
  • Future payment for premium features: Optional external license purchase for enhanced API credits (planned for 2026)
  • Privacy-first design: All archived content stays in your local vault by default

Data Storage Philosophy

Your data stays yours. Social Archiver is built on a privacy-first principle:

  • All archived posts are saved locally in your Obsidian vault
  • No cloud storage or third-party servers store your archived content
  • You have complete control over your data

What Data We Collect

Local Data (Stored Only on Your Device)

The following data is stored exclusively in your Obsidian vault:

  • Social media posts you choose to archive
  • Images and videos from archived posts
  • Post metadata (author, date, platform, engagement stats)
  • Your personal notes added to archived posts

We do not have access to this data. It never leaves your device unless you choose to share it (see "Web Sharing" below).

Account Data

When you authenticate with Social Archiver:

  • Email address: Used only for authentication via magic link
  • Username: Your unique public identifier for web sharing
  • Authentication token: Stored securely in your Obsidian vault settings

Optional Web Sharing Data

If you choose to enable web sharing for specific posts:

  • Shared post content (as you configured: preview-only or full content)
  • Share settings (password, expiry date)
  • Public timeline metadata
  • Access logs (for security and analytics)

This data is stored on Cloudflare Workers/KV and is only collected for posts you explicitly choose to share.

Technical Data

We may collect minimal technical data for service operation:

  • API usage statistics (for rate limiting and credit tracking)
  • Error logs (for debugging and service improvement)
  • Platform detection (to improve archiving accuracy)

We do not collect: Browsing history, device information, or any data from posts you do not archive.
